Hi Kathryn,
Thank you for that question. Please post it on ask the expert page, and Dana is sure to get back to you. Thanks again!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajDear Dana, I am 14 and am Filipino(tan skin, dark hair, very dark eyes). I have little eyelid space, but would still like to use eyeshadow to make by eyes really pop. Also, I use mascara and eyeliner, but do you have any tips for making my eyes look bigger? Can you help me?
-- Contributed by: KathrynHi Kristin,
No worries! One of the best things about eye shadow is that it's usually light. Always use a base shadow in a subtle color like bone, champagne, or nutmeg, that can go all over the eye.
From there, pick a shade in the same family that has slightly more intensity for your contour shade. This will look pretty, and the only reason why people will stare at you is because you look so good! Thanks for the question!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajIm 13 and i wear mascara and eye liner. I want to no how to put eye shadow on but not a lot that people will just stare. I have blue eyes and dark brown hair. Please help!!
-- Contributed by: KristinHi Dominique,
First, I want to ask you, what kind of look would you like? Do you want a natural look or do you want something more dramatic? Please write back and I'll get back to you. Thank you!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajOh, sorry. Revision--
Excuse me. I meant my eyes are in between dark and light brown. I forgot to specify the color.
-- Contributed by: dominiqueHi Jaqueline,
I'm fifteen and I was wondering what to do for eye makeup. I can't only line my eyes on the top because it makes them look too round and really odd. If I line them with black pencil liner all around, it's too dark, and they look too short. Normally my eyes aren't that big-looking, and I have olive skin, kind of like Selena Gomez. My eyes are in between dark and light, not really eighther, but a mix, and I have long eyelashes, but not thick. I'm also hispanic. What can I do for eye makeup?
-- Contributed by: dominiqueHi Diz,
Yes, you can. The only thing you need to watch out for is the undertone of the color. For example, with tan skin, some "greens" don't mesh so well. Try a hunter green since that may work. If you want to go with a light or "icy" color green, then try applying it only to the inner corners of your eyes (the part of the eye that is closest to your nose). The same advice holds true for the lighter blue colors. Thanks for the question and good luck!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline Dautajhi i'm 18. i would like to wear bright colr eyeshadow like neon blue & green.. but i have dark eyes & hair & tan skin.. can i pull that look? if so, how?
-- Contributed by: dizHi Tai,
Many folks feel the exact same way you do- that makeup is not appropriate for girls so young. At the end of the day, however, it really is up to the parents. Thanks so much for leaving your opinion here and for sharing it with our visitors- we love that!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajPersonally, Im really good with makeup. I do many different things, and it usually looks good.
But also personally, I dont think ten and twelve year old little girls should be wearing makeup, none the less alot.
Its better to stay natural with light blushes, and lipgloss.

Hi Jasmine,
First, because you are so young, we don't want you wearing all of that eye makeup at the same time. That said, opt for blue, purple or brown eyeliners (they will really bring out your brown eyes). For a base eyeshadow try a light color like champagne or peach.
When it comes to acne, you'll need to invest in a really good concealor (try one from Bobbi Brown or head to your local drugstore and see what they have). Remember, because you are so young, you already look gorgeous, so go easy with the concealor and just use the amount you need to cover up the acne. Good luck to you and thanks for the question!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajDear Dana, I am a 14 year old girl and i want to start wearing eyeliner, eyeshadow, and covering up my acne on my forehead except im not sure what color and type of eyeliner/eyeshadow i should wear and i dont know how to cover the acne, i have a light badge skin color and dark brown eyes.I will really apreciate the advice.

The key to creating a smoky eye look with a twist is to use usual shades. What if you did something really wild, like using hot pinks and blacks to create a smoky eye? Our article Fall Makeup Looks will walk you through the process step by step, but I want you to use different colors, like green, blue and pink to complete the look. The really great thing about using these types of colors is that because this is for a production, you can really think outside of the box with this. Also, if the people wearing this look will be on stage, then I'd really stand out. We wish you the best of luck with this!
PS If you think the pink/green/blue eye shadows are too much, then follow a traditional smoky eye look and simply place these wild colors in the inner part of the eye. That oughta really capture some attention!

Hi Antonella,
It sounds as if you have beautiful eyes! Why don't you try to play them up with:
- either a brown eye pencil (if you want a minimal look)
- or try some colored ones like purple, green or even blue.
Since you are so young, you could definitely get away with a more adventurous look. If the problem is that your eyes look to big, then try drawing the eyeliner very close to your lash line- this will give you that "fierce" look.
Further, please see our Eye Shadow for Brown Eyes article; it's chock full of great tips for brown eyed beauties. Good luck to you and thanks for your post!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline Dautajhello!! i am 16 years old. i have big brown eyes with very long eyelashes.i don't know what to do with my eyes. i try to use mascara but it makes my eyelashes look even more longer. i dont' know what to do with my eyes. i really need lots of help. my hair is dark brown with blond underneath and my skin tone is tan. thank you so much for your help and time. :)
-- Contributed by: antonellaHi Ali,
How exciting!
Don't worry- you'll get better with practice! I also have brown eyes and tan skin, but you didn't tell me what color hair you have. Going with the brown eyes, try deep purple or deep blue eyeliner. It will make your brown eyes look outstanding!
Keep the rest of your face simple and natural looking. Another great tip? Try peach/beige/pink lipstick. Basically, a light lipstick. Think Jennifer Lopez (she has brown eyes and tan skin and looks great!) At first, it will feel a little funny wearing such a light colored lipstick, but trust me, you lips will look luscious! I hope you have a terrific night (and don't worry, you'll look great!)
