i agree with Laura always work from the bottom to the top so you can't mess up

Hi Laura,

To think out the brows, always work from the bottom up (never the other way around). Here's what you should do:

  • Comb all of your brow hairs up. Cut all of the ones that are longer than the majority of the hairs with a scissors.
  • Now, begin tweezing under the arch, until it looks the way you'd like it.
  • From there, clear out any strays.

Thanks for the question and we hope this helps!

Hi Liz,

If you were wearing dramatic makeup at private school (and they allowed it), why do you feel that it wouldn't be appropriate in public school?

As for looks you can try, go with something usual. Explore the world of glitter pencils in brown (we say brown because that's a beautiful contrast to your pretty green eyes!), or purple (same thing). On your first day, and if you're allowed, go with whatever suits your personality best. If you like the classic look, head for pale pretty pastels and if you like funky, eye catching looks then try the glitter pencils. Thanks for the question and good luck at school!

Hey, I've been wearing makeup for about 2 years now. ( I'm a teen ) next year I will be going to a public school after spending ALL my life in private school. I'm nervous about what I should wear on my face. I adore dramatic make-up but I know I shouldn't wear that to school. My eyes are green/hazel (usually more green, but blue or brown every once in a blue moon(; ) Do you have any tips? Like what colors, or style I should wear? They would be MUCH appreciated! :)

Hi Cher,

It may seem impossible, but there are some steps you can take.

  • First, invest in a clear mascara (Walgreen's sells one online from Maybelline for about $5). This way you can lengthen your lashes and no one will know why they look so long. If you have the money, also invest in an eyelash curler (plastic or metal) as this will outrageously lengthen your lashes!
  • Next, find a lipstick, cream or powder blush that goes well with your skin tone and apply it to your cheeks. You're young, so the blush will make you look even fresher. Be careful when you apply though (you don't want to look like a clown!) and blend, blend, blend. Bobbi Brown makes a fantastic cream blush called "Pot Rouge". It works great for that natural, but beautiful look.
  • Take a look at your eyebrows. They're very important because they frame your face. If you decide to tweeze them, please do so very carefully. See this article for tips: Eyebrow Grooming.
  • Lastly, invest in a great lip gloss. This way your lips will look shiny and full (and if anything, just say it's Vaseline, no one can argue with that!).

Now, about this "ugly sore thumb" stuff. When you are 14, you automatically look beautiful, so don't worry. Also, your parents are right, while those other girls are damaging their skin from using too many products, you'll be able to keep yours glowing well into the future. Good luck to you and thanks for the question!

Hi Julie,

The most beautiful thing about a woman is her confidence, so start with that. This usually comes from knowing who you are, what you believe in etc.

As for the makeup, start small. Survey your skin. If it's clear and fresh you won't even need any foundation. Next, take a look at your eyes and lips. Clear glosses in pretty pinks work and look great on every skin tone. When it comes to your eyes, you'll want to keep it simple here as well. Opt for brown eyeliners (if that matches your eyes) and luminescent shades of eye shadows. Truly, though, all you need to do is believe in yourself and you'll look great!

O my gosh! I am in middle school and sooo new to make up I always feel ugly when i where it and uglier when i don't! i am always trying new things but I can't seem to get my look right. i am lost in a sea of beautiful girls and they make me even more isecure about myself.
