Hi Shara,

You'll need to choose the shade (of the two) that you like best and either get a matching shade of foundation (or bronzer, depending on the occasion) and blend, blend, blend until everything matches up beautifully.

Hi Anna,

We appreciate you sharing your opinion with us here- that is very important to us! However, please try to remember that makeup is in the eye of the beholder. Thank you for the post!

just an idea, but try not 2 look like a freak when you put makeup on. People want 2 see you, not a vampire character from Twilight. You can wear dark makeup, just don't look like a freak.

Hi Shara,

That doesn't sound strange at all! Everyone has the right to express themselves in whatever manner they choose. Now, for the lipstick. You have two options. You can either get a black or very dark colored lipstick pencil and fill in the lips first before applying your lipstick or you can place foundation on your lips and then apply your lipstick. Both techniques help to "grab" the color and keep it from fading.

The other thing I would ask is are you blotting the lipstick properly. Here's what to do:

  • First apply the lipstick to your lips and "rub" it in with your finger.
  • Next, apply the lipstick again, after which you'll need to grab a piece of tissue and press it against your lips (gently) until the color is nothing more than a stain.
  • Now, reapply again the lipstick again.
  • Blot one more time.
  • Apply the final coat.

It sounds strange, but it really does help the lipstick to last a very long time. Thanks for the question and good luck!

hi, again. I was wondering as an african american goth, (surprising i know) i love to wear balck lipstick. However when ever i put it on, it never stays on and it fades so in the end it looks messy. Is there anyway i can stop this from happening all the time?

Hi Trixie,

What you would have to do is first find a powder/foundation that exactly matches your skin tone. This way your base will be perfect to apply color to.

Next, focus on the eyes. Having dark skin is by no way a bad thing, so use color. Pick a color that works well with your skin tone- something that pops. Can you write back and tell me exactly what your skin tone is? That way, we'll get back in touch with you and tell you which colors would work best on you. In the meantime, focus on doing your eyes- it should look great! Thanks for the question!

Hi xx,

I'm sorry to hear that! What color are your eyes? And how are you applying your eye makeup? Please write back and let me know your eye color, skin tone, and hair color, and then I'll try to walk you through the steps. Thanks for the question!

thanks so much for writing this article, it is thoroughly written and very self explainatory, hopefully now we won't have as much kids running around looking like they tried to hard to accomplish the full and actual goth look.

Hi Alice,

Amazingly enough, it is sometimes true. Over plucking can often lead to hairs not growing back. Take heart, though. Why not just pluck away any stray hairs until you find the cleanest and most appropriate arch for your brow? That way, the look is arched and neat, and you won't have to worry about the hair not growing back. Thanks for the post!

Um, about the plucking to shaving ur eyebrows, ive always wanted to try that look but i hear womans eyebrows dont grow back and im somewhat attatched to them. Is this true?!

Hi Sue!

Those were great tips! Thanks for sharing!

Don't forget, the higher the arch in the eyebrow the better, brows that come to a poin in the center are best. You may look like a "Scarred kitty cat" without the makeup however.

I'm surprised glitter wasn't mentioned, the more glitter the better!! One product I have to have is glitter eyeliner pencil by Hard Candy. It comes in a variety of colors, the best is galexy (black w/ silver). Put it under your eyes and the glitter give the illusion that you've been crying.

I also recommend Kryolan theatre makeup for eyeshadow. It can be pricey and is only on Ebay but this stuff has no match (in my opinion). You can rub your eyes repeatedly, you can dance your booty off, and still you look fab!! And they have the brightest colors, even blacklight reactive.

Look for "tranny" lashes, the most outlandish and multi-colored the better. Goth isn't just about black anymore!!

Oh and a small comment. I almost NEVER see black lipstick anymore. This is a bit passe (80's) and unless you can really pull it off stick with red, purple, pink or even blue.
