Hi Mary,

This is a common question, so I'm glad you asked it. The short answer is no. The long answer is that you can use eyebrow gel to help the hair stay (and grow) into the direction you want it to. While you can't force it to grow that way, the gel will help it to, at least, stay in that diection. Thanks for the question!

Hi, a few of my eyebrow hairs grow downward which just stick out. Is there a way to redirect the way hair grows in?

-- Contributed by: Mary

Hi Rebecca,

Yes you should because you want to "feminize" the face, and that means following the tips most women use. For the brows, remember to "thin" them out and to create an arch. If you have any more questions, please feel free to write us back.

I'm transexual. I want the most feminine look I can achieve. Do you have any tweezing tips?since mens facial structure is a little different. Should I follow the same guidelines as traditional women do?

Hi Ashley,

Great question! Okay, how are with tweezing? Now, you'll want to create that "feminine arch". This allows the eye to look more open. If you are familiar with tweezing, then I want you to start the arch right above the outer part of your pupil, but go slow. It's really easy to get carried away.

If they are already neatly groomed, then think about using a clear gel on them to keep them in line. Also, you can think about having the brows threaded. Why are you worried about the office? Don't be! You have every right to look as beautiful as possible!

If you have any more questions, please feel free to post them. Thanks for the question!

Hi Wendy,

Unfortunately, we are unable to do that at this time, but we recommend that you visit our Makeup Pictures category. This category is chock full of great makeup photos, and we have no doubt that you will find some inspiring makeup pictures there, and models that have terrific eyebrows. Thank you for the comment!

Hi Jason,

Here's what I want you to do. Since you've got a great arch going on already, don't touch that. Instead, take a brush (preferably an eyelash comb brush, but an old toothbrush will do) and I want you to comb all of your eyebrow hairs straight up.

Now, take a scissors and cut directly across the hairs, so that all of them are one length. Basically, what you are doing is cutting all of the eyebrow hairs that are longer and making it the same size and all the other hairs. This should really help the brows look better.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to write back, and also, tell us how your brows look after you cut. Thanks for the question and good luck!

my eyebrows are very thick....they have a nice arched shape to them but they just look very bushy and messy....all i want is to have a cleaner look? what should i do??

Hi Aaron,

The first thing you should do is tweeze between your eyebrows (there's usually some stray hairs there). Next, you'll need to create and arch. Please see what we told Illiana about creating that arch. Do the same thing with the pencil, or brush- it will tell you exactly where your arch should be.

Since you also have thin brows, take an eyebrow pencil (Revlon has a good one for about $8) and fill in the brows at the top. Stand back and see how that looks (you may just need to add some "height" to the brow). Depending on how that looks, go ahead and add some of the pencil to the bottom of the brows. How does it look now? Keep playing with the depth of the pencil until you get the brows your after.

Thanks for the question and good luck to you!

My eyes are very closed. They look as if my eyes are closed all the time, and my eyebrows are low and thin also. What should I do to make my eyes look more open and stand out?

-- Contributed by: Aaron

Hi Iliana,

Yes, I would advise you to fill in the tail ends. Take a long makeup brush and hold it diagonally from the end of your nose to the outer corner of your eye- this will tell you where your eyebrow should end.

As for the arches, only you know what your eyebrows look like, so you need to do whatever you can do make them look good (even if that means not following conventional wisdom). I'm not really sure what you mean by and upside down v, but if what you've been doing (plucking wise) has been working, then I see no reason why you should stop. Good luck and thanks for the post!

I have very short eyebrows, so I've never really shaped the tail of my brows after my arch. Would it look odd if I were to use eyebrow pencils and filled it in (and extend further)?

Also, for my natural eyebrow shape...I have high arches almost near the middle of eyebrow. I've been told to always pluck from the bottom, and never the top of the brow. The problem is, there is an upside down V on top of my arches, and if I were to follow my eyebrow shape, I would have very unnatural arches. Please advise me on this.

Hi Avesha,

If you need a clear explanation of how to do eyebrows, then please see our article Eyebrow Grooming. It also has some great tips. Thank you for your post!

give me the clear explanation or procedure to make the eyebros

Hi Jane,

Here's what you need to do. Before you start plucking or anything like that, brush all of your eyebrow hairs straight up. The ones that are the longest are the ones that get cut. From there, you're ready to begin the plucking process. Remember, when you are "trimming" you don't want to be "thinning" them out- you're simply making them neater. Thanks for the question!

-- Contributed by: Jacqueline Dautaj

how thin does your eyebrows need to be when you trim them? and what if they were thick and all over the place to start with before any kind of plucking of the eyebrows?

Hi Anne,

This question (and your other one) will be answered on Brown Eyes. Please check there next week. Thanks again!

hi! i am 14 years old. can i ask what is the best color of contact lenses can i use?

Hi Moe,

We're sorry this happened to you. Until they grow back in, you'll need to shadow the hairs in. Using shadow (or a pencil) will give you cover until you get the look you want. What you'll need to do is use soft, feathery stokes (it looks more natural).

The best way to do this is to take a good look at your eyes. The brow should start at the inner part of your nose (think or arches or a ram’s horn to get a good idea). The highest part should be above the outer part of your iris and then taper off gently. We sincerely hope this helps and good luck to you!

I RUINED MY EYEBROWS AS WELL ID GOTTEN A TATOO 5 MONTHS AGO THEN RECENTLY I HAD GOTTEN THE SURGERY TO GROW SOME AGAIN NOW I HAVE TO WAIT AND HOPE THAT ITS WHAT I WANTED AND FIX THEM TO FIT MY FACE WHAT SHOULD I DO

Hi Pamela,

First, don't worry- we've all been there. Second, run to the store and purchase and eyebrow pencil for an immediate fix. If you're blonde, use a blonde eyebrow pencil, if a redhead, use a brown pencil and if you are a brunette, go with a gray pencil (black looks way too unnatural). This will immediately fix your eyebrows.

When you have more time, purchase a good eyebrow kit ( Bobbi Brown makes a great one). Go with Bobbi on this because her makeup always looks natural.

What you'll end up doing is using a combination of shadows and liners (for the most natural look) until your brows grow back in. And don't worry- they will eventually grow back in! Thanks for the question and good luck to you!
