Hi Blossom...,
What eyeliner colors are you using? Perhaps they are too dark? Why not try a lighter color like silver, gold or light blue? This will look dramatic without making you look dull. In fact, the lighter colors will add lovely light reflection to your eyes. Please write back and we'll try to help some more!

-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajHi, your steps for the smokey eye are incorrect and don't capture the proper professional drama of smokey eyes. You don't need liquid eyeliner at all, but instead a boldly black eyeliner along with the blackest mascara. As the eye shadow base for the smokey eye, you should wear a neutral shade, and smear black eyeliner over and inbetween your lashes (don't worry about being too careful, you'll be using your pinky to blend it into your lid for a more shadowed look, adding a brown shadow on top of the whole lid right after). In the crease, lightly brush the same dark brown, without going too close to the inner corners of your eye. Running along eyeliner around the entire inside of the eye will not close your eyes or make them seem smaller. However, putting an excessive amount of dark makeup in the inner corners will - putting a lightly glimmered shadow in the corner of the eye will help bring back the look of awakeness. Curled black eyelashes are very important for smokey eyes, as this also helps open the eye. Darkening or filling of the eyebrows also adds to the defined dramatic look but can look odd if done wrong. If you have pretty shaped eyebrows, you would only want to fill in the brows in the center, as naturally, this is where most eyebrow hairs will grow.
