Hi Mary,
Have you thought about not using these products any more? Is the itching severe in any way?
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajMy face itches especially later in the day. I have used Philosophy and Bare Escentuals for years - safely. Now, I'm not sure what's up.-- Contributed by: Mary
Hi Mary,
These two foundations don't contain titanium:
The company may still be in business, but your post will stay up- hopefully someone out there has the answer. Thanks for the question!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajI had a reaction to Bare Minerals as well....I think I'm allergic to the titanium dioxide in the mineral veil...not sure about the Bismuth.
I would like to know if there are any liquid foundations without titanium.
Also the link to the J. Lynne seems to be down...is company still in business?
-- Contributed by: Mary L.Hi Callie,
That's a great question, and it will stay up here so that others can read it and get back to you. Did you stop using the id Bare Minerals?
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajI had an allergic reaction id ID BareMinerals I dont know what caused it but after reading this is am thinking it is bismuth but not sure! What have you used instead of Mineral Makeup but that still gives the same natural look?
-- Contributed by: CallieHi Emily,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us here!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajI have tried a few brands of mineral makeup and they are really good!
Hi Valerie,
How long have you had the red bumps for? If it's not going away, or if it's a serious reaction (and it sounds like it is), I would highly recommend that you contact your dermatologist immediately. It's best to err on the side of safety when it comes to your health. When you do see the dermatologist, please write us back and let us know what happens- your experience may be very valuable to our visitors, and it may be something they should know about. Thank you for the question!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajI am absolutely dismayed to learn that I am experiencing a severe allergic reaction To Bare Minerals. I love the look it gave me. But my skin is such a mess right now I won't even go out of the house. I haven't yet called a dermatologist. Will these red bumps go away on their own or do I need meds?
-- Contributed by: ValerieHi Linda,
We haven't personally heard of that problem, but your comment will stay up, so others will be able to view it, and hopefully, have some experiences to share. Thanks for posting your story with us here!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajHi, I also have used the Bare Essen. and JoLee mineral make up. I think the dust caused a sinus and inner ear problem that two doctors say is an allergy. I used 6 different prescriptions with no effect, discontinued using the make up, and after several days my ear got better. I started using it again and it came back. I love the make up and would love to find out that it is not the cause, but I think it is. Any one else heard of this problem? Thanks
-- Contributed by: LindaHi Emma,
Thanks so much for sharing that with us here- now all of our visitors know! Thanks again!
i'm surprised to see that you don't list Afterglow Cosmetics on the recommendations. I am super sensitive and found (after spending tnos of $$ on many mineral brands) that Afterglow was the only one that didn't make me itch or break out. Plus they use organic ingredients (certified) and none of the nasty ingredients you list above.
They have a full ingredient list on their website to make it easy.
I've told all my friends and family about Afterglow.
Emma
-- Contributed by: EmmaHi Shannon,
We're so sorry to hear that. Your post will stay up, so hopefully someone will be able to help. Thank you for sharing with us!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajI have very sensitive skin and a couple of years ago I tried Bare Minerals. I loved the look and coverage and it helps to clear up my skin and absorb excess oil. Unfortunately, I get severe headaches from the dust and can't stand them anymore. I would love to get this resolved.
-- Contributed by: shannonHi Anna,
I'm glad that you finally discovered what was causing your allergy. Thanks for posting your story here because it may help others with a similar problem. Thanks again!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajThis was very helpful because I have been investigating the ingredients in Bare Escentuals makeup for a long time. I work for Sephora and tried the foundation and concealer in the past and developed a small rash around my eyes in the outer corners. I immediately discontinued the use of it and could not figure out why something that would claim to be natural would give me such a reaction. I was prescribed hydrcortisone cream and found that helped, but I find that whenever I am at work and applying mineral makeup to clients the rash around my eyes comes back. I am allergic to nickel and figured that there might be traces of copper or nickel in it to do this. Seems like "Bismuth Oxychloride" might be the answer!
-- Contributed by: AnnaHi Maria,
While I personally have no experience with this product, you may want to check out Mineral Makeup Reviews]. This site reviews many different mineral products, so you may find something helpful there. Thanks for the comment!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajThanks for the helpful article. I just bought a Starter Kit from Earthnicity Mineral Make-up and am considering buying individual items but want to know if you are familiar with this brand and what you suggest.
Thanks again.
-- Contributed by: MariaHi Nikki,
Thanks for posting your story here for others to view. I'm sure some of our visitors will have some suggestions for you. Thanks again for sharing!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajHi Lexie,
First, since you had a reaction I would strongly suggest that you stop using it. Anything time your skin gets red and bumpy; it's a clear sign that something's just not right. Can you contact the company directly and ask them if their products are metal based? If so, ask them if they have any products that are not metal based and if they could ship those to you. Thanks for sharing your story and good luck as you move forward.
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajI have been using a variety of different mineral makeups. Most of them after a week really make my face itch and burn. I once used Young Blood Mineral makeup and loved it. However I had started working with a lady that was carrying Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup and that is when my face started really burning and itching. I have as well had problems with Bare Minerals, Color Science, Pure Color Sync, and Pure Minerals. Pure Color Sync told me that theirs did not contain Bismuth, but I still was experiencing itching. If anyone has any suggestions or comments please write me. I love mineral makeup. I am trying Young Blood again, but I just don't feel like it stays on. Thanks
-- Contributed by: NikkiThank you for your information. I just purchased 600.00 dollars worth of Bare Essentials for myself and my two daughters. My oldest daughter has not experienced any trouble with the make up at this point, but she has skipped a few days here and there. She doesn't have metal based allergies. My youngest daughter hasn't felt motivate to use her make up at all, but she does have metal based allergies. I have used the make up straight since purchasing it 2 weeks ago. Suddenly last night, I felt some itching and decided to wash my face for the evening. When I looked in the mirror, I couldn't believe how red and bumpy my skin had become on my cheek area. I had a reaction once to a lipstick becauser it had metal elements in it; I'm allergic to metal or what others say is a nickle allergy, so I wondered if the make up contained metal.
Now, I'm just wondering what to do.
-- Contributed by: LexxieHI Miala,
We hope they work for you as well. Good luck and thanks for the comment!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline Dautajthank you for this article. I had been using Bare Mineral for a while but then developed allergies to it about a year later. I will try the make up you had listed hopefully they will work.
-- Contributed by: MialaHi Kristen,
We're so glad we could help you! It always feels great when we're able to shed light on a problem for our readers'. Thanks so much for the comment!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajI'm so glad I found this article. Everytime I used Bare Minerals Foundation my face would get irritated and itch... however, I wasn't having this reaction to their Mineral Veil, and now I understand it's the bismuth that's doing this!

-- Contributed by: KirstenHi Elisha,
We love the look of mineral makeup too! We're glad to hear that you've found a look a that works for you and looks great on your skin!
-- Contributed by: Jacqueline DautajI have been using mineral makeup for about 2 months. It is a combination of Physician's Formula and Isa Dora. In the past 2 weeks my face has broke out in a rash and my face, throat and tongue are swollen (for which I am taking steroids). I then switched to Covergirl. Agai, no good. I love the coverage of the minerals and my skin looks (looked) great!
-- Contributed by: ElishaI have a mineral make up line and I have found most people who claim they are allergic to minerals, is when the line contains the ingredient, 'Bismuth' which is a known irritant.
I have created a line full of anti oxidants, vitamins, lipoic acid and NO BISMUTH. I have not had any complaints thus far and my make up is now being used on Movie and TV sets.
Ms Linette
