Glossy Eye Makeup
by Tanya on November 06, 2009
We’ve talked about lip glosses, of course, but eye glosses? They’re much less common, and not nearly as versatile. However, a gleaming, brilliant eyelid is a fantastic alternative to a basic eye look, and it can really dazzle when done right – and in the appropriate environment, like a holiday party.
For all its runway-worthy glamour (and indeed, it has been spotted all over the runways), it has a downside, too: It simply doesn’t last. Most glossy looks are achieved through some sort of emollient, such as Vaseline, which will eventually migrate and leave the surrounding eye area looking, well, rather sweaty and unkempt. It also doesn’t help the staying powder of your eyeliner and mascara; expect those to move too when you’re doing a glossy eye.
Assuming you wish to avoid all of this, of course, you can achieve a similar look by mixing some Vaseline (or any other similar product) with a cream eye shadow of your choice. Dip an eye shadow brush into the concoction and smooth it over your lids. For a slightly less “done” look, run your fingers over your lids (this will also help lessen the intensity if you opted for a dark color like gray or black).
Steer clear of glossy lids during the day, since there really isn’t anything much more annoying than oil-slicked skin that feels more and more goopy as the day wears on. This is definitely a great choice for clubbing, though!
