Zoom Tooth Whitening
From LoveToKnow Makeup
Zoom tooth whitening products gave viewers a dazzlingly display on ABC’s hit show, Extreme Makeover. As a cosmetic enhancement, the Zoom! Chairside Whitening System is really not that extreme. This is why tooth bleaching has become one of the most popular beauty makeovers in the United States today.
What is Zoom Tooth Whitening?
Zoom! is a laser tooth whitening system performed as an in-office dental bleaching technique. The manufacturer, Discus Dental, supplies the dentist with a complete exclusive Zoom tooth whitening kit, including the tooth whitener, bleaching light, and disposable patient items. This kit is a serious investment for a dentist, ranging from a $1,500 to $2,500 cost. The Zoom! system utilizes a hydrogen peroxide based bleach and includes a proprietary activator. This activator is mixed with the hydrogen peroxide at the time of application creating a gel with 25% hydrogen peroxide and a ph of 7.5 to 8.5. The laser is a mercury metal halide light with a wavelength of violet coloration (350 – 400 nm). It also includes a unique infrared filter designed to minimize the heat generated on the tooth enamel during treatment. The Zoom! light is also capable of illuminating all teeth simultaneously which helps speed the bleaching process time.
The Zoom tooth whitening treatments typically take ninety minutes from start to finish. This time includes three different applications of the bleach and laser at approximately fifteen to twenty minutes each. The rest of the time is for the dentist to set up and clean the teeth before beginning treatment. The dentist employs a dental dam during the Zoom tooth whitening process. A dental dam is a device that protects the gums and soft tissue from exposure to the bleaching chemicals. While relaxing during treatment, patients can watch television, listen to music, or read for entertainment.
