Self Tanning Product Review
From LoveToKnow Makeup
This self tanning product review will discuss Jergens Natural Glow. This product is a moisturizer that also creates a light tan. Jergens also has a product called Natural Glow Face, a daily moisturizer designed for facial skin.
Jergens Natural Glow
Jergens Natural Glow is a daily moisturizer for your body that not only softens your skin, but also gradually develops a light, natural-looking tan without exposing yourself to the dangers of the sun.
There are formulations for fair, medium and medium tan skin tones. You will experience the best results when you choose a formulation based on your current skin tone. A darker formulation can be used, but it may not appear as natural as the lighter one.
Jergens also markets a Natural Glow Firming product as well as a formula developed for your face. Both of these products will create a natural tan on your skin.
How it Works
Jergens Natural glow products contain dihydroxyacetone, or DHA. This product is commonly found in other self tanning products. Jergens also uses a not so common ingredient: erythrulose. While this isn’t typically used in most self tanners, it is safe to use and works well combined with DHA. Natural Glow also contains light-diffusers that give your skin a subtle glow.
When you stop using this product, your tan will gradually fade away to your original skin tone. It is recommended that you use a sunscreen in addition to this moisturizer since it contains no sunscreens of its own. Sunscreen is essential to protect you from skin cancer as well as other harmful effects of sun exposure.
Self Tanning Product Review
Selecting a Self Tanner
When I decided to write a self tanning product review, I did a little research on self tanning products. I wanted something that would look natural after hearing horror stories of orange skin. Orange is really not my color.
I visited several message boards and looked at various web sites before deciding to try out the Jergens self tanning products. I found rave reviews of this product so I decided to give it a shot. Happily, I found a product that included a sample size of the face product. I choose the product for medium skin tones since I have a bit of color already this year. However, I was hoping to even out my color since I have a tendency to wear t-shirts and really am not impressed with my “farmer’s tan”.
Using the Product
The directions say to use this product daily as you do a regular moisturizer. My problem is that I don’t use a daily moisturizer on my whole body. Generally I only moisturize my face and my legs. Obviously, that isn’t going to help with an all over tan, so I needed to make adjustments.
Remembering to use this self tanning product every day was probably my biggest challenge. Often I had to go back, undress, and apply the moisturizer. I also had to enlist the help of my daughter or husband frequently since I can’t reach my back!
My next problem was waiting for it to dry. It is recommended to let the product dry before dressing to keep it from getting on your clothing. I really don’t have time for that so it was a bit of an annoyance for me.
Results
It seemed to take about a week of continual use for results. It does produce a subtle tan and I liked the slight sparkle of the light diffusers. However, I still found the routine to be a hassle. If you have more time, or patience, than I do, you will probably appreciate the product more than I did.
It is important to wash your hands after use to keep your palms from changing color. Another trick is to use gloves when applying the product.
If you are looking for a deep, exotic tan, this product may not be right for you. Instead, this product provides a subtle, sun-kissed look. It is great for year round use, especially if you don’t spend much time outside but don’t want to look like a geisha.
