Permanent Makeup Intradermal Pigmentation
From LoveToKnow Makeup
Permanent makeup, or intradermal pigmentation, is a unique process involving the insertion of pigments into the skin's dermal layer.
About Permanent Makeup (Intradermal Pigmentation)
Known more commonly as permanent makeup, intradermal pigmentation is a revolutionary method that has taken the beauty world by storm. Though the practice of inserting color into the skin dates back to the days of Cleopatra, its acceptance as a beauty tool only came about in recent decades.
Today, the permanent makeup procedure is used to enhance, correct or improve natural facial features. The areas most commonly worked on are the eyebrows, lash line and lips.
Intradermal pigmentation is considered completely safe in this medically advanced day and age. Several tools exist for the application of pigment. While these tools do not always make for a relaxing, comfortable experience, the benefits involved far outweigh the discomfort.
Food for Thought
The process of intradermal pigmentation encompasses a variety of steps, and it also involves making several important decisions. Among them are the following factors anyone interested in undergoing a permanent makeup procedure must ask him or herself:
- Why do I want to undergo this procedure?
- Do I understand that it is permanent and can not be reversed?
- Am I comfortable dealing with some pain for a minimal period of time?
- What exactly do I want to change?
Though the answers may seem obvious, it is important to think them through. In response to the self-imposed questions above, you might consider the following information:
People undergo intradermal pigmentation for a variety of reasons. Among them are the following:
- Their eyebrows are sparse, or they have no brows at all.
- They are allergic to basic cosmetic ingredients or suffer from seasonal allergies, and they constantly deal with itchy, watery eyes.
- They lead busy lifestyles and have no time to do a "full face" every day and maintain it throughout the day.
- They are athletes who do not wish to deal with sweating off their makeup. After undergoing intradermal pigmentation:
- Swimmers can wear eye and lip makeup and maintain it.
- Tennis players can wipe the sweat off their brow and not lose their penciled-in brow in the process!
- Runners can take part in marathons and enjoy looking as glamorous as they want to.
Permanent makeup is indeed a permanent change to the pigment. However, it does not typically maintain the same color level. It is important to visit the technician regularly to undergo a brief touch-up in order to maintain the look and sustain the integrity of the color.
The process may last anywhere from one to three hours. Touch-up sessions are typically much shorter and are also less painful. While intradermal pigmentation does not sit at the top of pain echelon, it certainly can be uncomfortable for some. The sensation is often described as prickly.
It is also important to note that, depending on the type of device used to transfer pigment to the skin, an audible sound will be heard throughout the procedure. This can be bothersome to some, particularly if the noise emits from an electronic machine. A hand-tapping method is generally less painful than machine-dependent ones, and it also emits a less distracting noise. That sound is described as a Velcro-like noise.
Enhancements
There are several types of enhancements that intradermal pigmentation can focus on. The following are generally the most common:
Eyebrows
Those with sparse or no eyebrows will appreciate the visible difference permanent cosmetics can make. The brow can be filled completely to create a "new" brow, or single hairs can be added to create an illusion of fullness. People with graying eyebrows may even consider having the gray replaced with a color matching their natural brow shade.
Eyeliner
Whether a dark, bold line or a soft, natural one, permanent eyeliner can have a dramatic impact on the overall look of the face. In this process, the pigment is implanted along the lash line.
Lip Color
Thinking of changing lip shape or just want to achieve a more natural color? Permanent lip color can take care of both concerns with ease. Fuller, sexy lips are easily achieved when the pigment is applied just outside the natural lip line. A soft, nude pink hue is a popular natural lip hue.
Recovery
Expect some slight swelling and redness after the procedure. This will subside quickly. However, complete healing usually takes one to six weeks.
