Loreal Mineral Makeup
From LoveToKnow Makeup
The latest update from the mineral makeup scene is Loreal Mineral Makeup. Officially called Bare Naturale Powdered Mineral Foundation by L’Oreal, it is marketed as a natural makeup competing with brands like Bare Escentuals. Although it includes mineral makeup ingredients, it is not a truly pure mineral makeup like the competition.
Loreal Mineral Makeup Basics
The Bare Naturale foundation arrives in a small one-ounce jar. Unlike most other powdered mineral makeup, it incorporates an all natural brush into the packaging. The brush is actually attached to the lid of the jar and is used by simply turning over the lid during application. The price ranges from $12 to $15 depending on where you purchase. This is one of the main attractions for the Loreal mineral makeup, as the competition sells for $20 to $60 a jar.
The foundation is available in eight colors:
- Soft Ivory
- Light Ivory
- Nude Beige
- Creamy Natural
- Natural Beige
- Buff Beige
- Sun Beige
- Classic Tan
Due to the petite sized jar sold in a drugstore, skin color matching can be slightly difficult. When buying your first jar, double check the store’s return policy and save your receipt. Also, one advantage of a powder foundation is the ability to mix colors creating your own unique shade.
L’Oreal advertises the following about their version of mineral foundation:
- All Natural
- Non-Acnegenic
- Non-Drying
- Oil and Fragrance-Free
- Light to Medium Coverage
General Mineral Makeup Advantages
The Loreal mineral makeup provides some of the same advantages that are inherent in the mineral makeup concept. Although it is a powder, the minerals act like a foundation. Mineral makeup is lightweight allowing air to flow freely around your skin. The minerals also provide a natural sunscreen with a SPF of 19.
Authenticity
There is some controversy over whether the Loreal mineral makeup can be described as a true mineral makeup product. Although it is significantly more natural then standard foundations, Bare Naturale Powdered Mineral Foundation is not a pure mineral makeup creation. Many mineral makeup companies pride themselves on a short list of only mineral and natural ingredients. L’Oreal instead emphasizes their additives. This mineral foundation includes added moisturizers, such as aloe, and vitamins E and B5, to combat the drying effects of the mineral powders. They also admit their product contains a small amount of necessary fillers and preservatives.
Application Techniques
One of the most crucial steps for satisfaction with any type of mineral makeup comes from correct application. Generally, mineral makeup is applied differently then other types of powder and many new customers find this discouraging. When using the Loreal mineral makeup, follow theses steps closely:
- Swirl the attached brush in jar sifter.
- Shake extra powder off brush.
- Make sure only a small amount is first placed on your skin, over application is the number one problem.
- Apply the powder on the brush with small circular motions, starting from the center of your face working outwards.
- Repeat if more coverage is desired.
If you find the attached brush difficult to maneuver, consider buying a separate makeup brush. For particularly troublesome skin, you may want to apply this powder over a light foundation for extra coverage.
Also remember to clean your brush every one to two months with warm water and mild soap. Always air dry.
