Ideal Perfumes for Evening

From LoveToKnow Makeup

Your plans are set, you're headed out and your outfit is laid out – but without a selection of ideal perfumes for evening, your night may not be as sweet as it could! Even the slightest hint of fragrance can make all the difference. Whether you're interested in stronger notes or lean toward more subtle scents, you'll find an abundance of appropriate choices for evening wear.

Make a Signature Statement

Just as you probably have a favorite color to wear and a lipstick shade that flatters your skin tone perfectly, you likely also have a few scents that respond best to your chemistry. These may well be considered your signature scents – those that you rely on time and again, that you wear regularly and maybe even garner you some attention in the process.

Fragrances are such personal things, yet they make a profoundly public statement. You shouldn't emit a scent so uncontrollably strong that people in the next room can smell you, but a soft, subtle whiff by the person next to you is acceptable. To that end, it's best to choose wisely for special evenings out. Chances are you'll have at least one important person by your side, and you'll want to feel your most confident! This is made entirely possible thanks to the sweet beauty of fragrance.

Choosing Ideal Perfumes for Evening

At the end of the day, it's all about body chemistry. Some scents simply won't smell right on your skin, even if they smell great on, say, your best friend's. And vice versa. Some may even cause allergic reactions. Since scents are so unpredictable, it's always best to sample fragrance on bare, clean skin before buying. This is especially important when you're choosing ideal perfumes for evening wear! You don't want to turn your company off or leave him or her struggling for breath. The trick is to find something that surrounds you with a pleasant aroma, one that leaves your skin smelling just as you like it without any adverse side effects (like headaches or nausea).

Evening perfumes may typically be thought of as deep, sexy and enigmatic, but the truth is that many scents can work. If you naturally gravitate towards citrus or fruity scents, for example, you don't need to forgo them because they aren't typical evening scents. Many companies offer fragrances that contain genius blends of various notes. When done right, the notes work harmoniously and may be right up your alley.

Here are a few scents in various categories that are ideal for evening wear:

Light and Fresh

If you're a fan of these types of scents, you probably enjoy zesty, fruity notes, nature-inspired notes like lemongrass and herbs and water-based notes. They may not sound very worthy of a glamorous evening out, but these scents pass muster because they blend light, fresh notes with others to create something energetic, bright and uplifting. They're ideal to wear outdoors during the spring and summer!

  • Cartier Eau de Cartier: An old classic, this fresh scent is rich in citric yuzu, bergamot, violet leaves, musk, lavender, cedarwood, patchouli and amber. The combination of bright citrus and rich musk is enigmatic, yet relaxed.
  • DKNY Be Delicious: This youthful, fun scent contains a burst of juicy apple tempered by intriguing coordinates, like cucumber, rose, sandalwood and white amber, to name a few.

Soft and Floral

The perfect evening floral is delicate and pronounced, but not overwhelming. Single note scents are an apt choice, particularly if you're fond of a specific floral note. Otherwise, try one of these lush fragrances instead.

  • Nanette Lepore: Expect nothing but pure romance from Lepore, who's responsible for some of the fashion world's most flirtatious, sweet designs. Her original scent is similar: It's a warm blend of rose, white peach, white cranberry, orange jasmine and more.
  • Acqua Di Parma Iris Nobile: This elegant scent stands head and shoulders above the crowd, thanks to a refined blend that includes mandarin, iris petals, orange blossom, vanilla and more. This is a particularly classic, memorable scent ideal for a very fancy occasion.

Warm and Spicy

Exotic, sexy and typically very long lasting, spicy scents embody regality and warmth. There's a sense of passion about these scents, and they're beautiful to wear during the cooler months.

  • Yves Saint Laurent Opium: Absolutely no list would be complete without a mention of this timeless scent. An enchanting blend of cloves, plum, rose, cedarwood and more, it illustrates that certain scents resonate with women for decades. This one has been around since 1977!
  • Dior Addict: A grownup vanilla scent can be a tricky one to manage, but this scent does so with grace. It's blended with sandalwood and tonka beans to create the ultimate, mysterious, glamorous scent. Despite being bold and memorable, it veers just short of being too strong.

Make it Last

You've found the perfume of your dreams, but you aren't sure it will last the night. You have several options:

  • Carry a small atomizer in your purse and reapply once to pulse points during a restroom break.
  • Spray your scent onto a cotton ball and carry that in your purse instead. Cotton holds the scent and works well as a touchup tool when your fragrance begins to fade. And don't worry – a dab will do just fine!
  • Layer over an unscented oil, such as Neutrogena's body oil. An easy way to do this is to apply the oil after stepping out of the shower. Finish getting dressed and then spritz your fragrance onto your pulse points. Since fragrances bind to oil, you can bet your scent will last through the evening!
