Gothic Makeup

From LoveToKnow Makeup

Gothic makeup may seem as easy as a dark glare in the general direction of the world; however, it is easy to lose your footing when it comes to this dramatically different type of cosmetic artistry.

The Glamour of Ghostly White

You will never find a true goth girl sunbathing at the beach. In fact, one rule to pulling off the gothic makeup look is to act as if you are allergic to all things sun related. Pale paves the way for all gothic getups, so keep this in mind when starting out.

The key to pale and pure looking skin is to rid your pores of any nasty toxins. So, if you are washing your face with a regular bar of soap, stop right now and go invest in a quality cleanser. Goth and girly can coincide; anyone who wants the full effects of gothic makeup needs to take care of their skin appropriately.

After you have fully cleansed and moisturized your face, apply a good foundation to the skin. Many Goths make the mistake of forcing their skin to be as white as possible. However, if you are of any significantly ethnic descent, then you may just be wasting your time and unfortunately causing yourself to look ridiculous. Instead, do not go more than two shades lighter than your natural skin tone. The foundation will still look effective and you will be able to keep up with the pale, porcelain skinned pack!

Finish off your light face with a quality powder staying away from the blush aisle completely. The goal is to have less color, not more. As white as you can go without looking like you are trying too hard is ideal.

True Gothic Makeup Is All about the Eyes

The eyes are the most powerful part of the gothic style. With the dramatic liquid eyeliner and creative shades of color, your eyes will be what makes or breaks your gothic makeup look.

Plucked eyebrows are the beginning of the gothic eye design. Be sure to make them thin and shapely. Some individuals even prefer eliminate them completely and paint them on instead. Of course, consider the daily time commitment involved in this option. It is easier to pluck your eyebrows enough to clear the way for shadow and liner, then leave the rest up to Mother Nature.

Next, you want to start applying the aforementioned eye shadow. In a sharp contrast to the pale expectations of the majority of the face, gothic makeup eye shadows come in fun hues of purple, blue, and brown to name a few. However, the most popular gothic makeup look today continues to be the traditional dark grey eye shadow with perhaps a darker black shadow mixed in.

The gothic scene is also crazy about shimmering eye shadows, which is where purples, dark blues, greens, and whites often come into play.

Lastly, apply some liquid eyeliner to polish off the eyes and choose a dark purple or dark Red Lipstick to polish off the look. If done correctly, your mirror image will be strikingly different than when you first started.

Don't Act As If You Are Trying

No matter how pale or dark you go, remember that the solution to all of your gothic makeup issues is found through the help of observation and guidance from others in the community. Take the time to really learn these techniques to enable your ability to pull off the gothic look and take part in one of the most unique types of beauty around.
