From LoveToKnow Makeup

Cover Girl Outlast Lip Stain promises hours of lip color that won't weigh down your lips like lipstick. Does it deliver?

About Cover Girl Outlast Lip Stain

Women are busier than ever before, and it can be a challenge to even find those few minutes to touch up your lipstick! Add to that the need to reapply lipstick when eating or drinking, and a lip stain gets a warm welcome into many women's beauty bags.

Outlast Lip Stain from Cover Girl is a water based stain available in the following ten shades:

  • Coy Coral
  • Everbloom kiss
  • Berry Smooch
  • Teasing blush
  • Sassy mauve
  • Plum pout
  • Bit of blossom
  • Everberry pink
  • Wildberry wink
  • Flirty nude
  • Cinnamon smile

The lip stain also is non-transferable (meaning it won't come off on your glass rim or your sweetheart's lips) and yet contains softeners and conditioners to keep lips from drying out. The stain is designed with a precision applicator tip to make applying easier.

Outlast Lip Stain Review

Always in love with time saving beauty products, I was excited to try Outlast Lip Stain. Normally I'm a gloss and go kind of girl, but I do like lipstick color, particularly for special occasions. I was looking forward to a splash of color that didn't wear off.

Color

I tried the lip stain in Flirty Nude, which I purchased at a mass retail store for $7.49. I don't like dark or bold lip colors unless it is a really high glam or special event; for every day I like something a bit more natural looking and nude. Thus, the flirty nude sounded like a great choice for me. A natural looking lip stain that lasts? What's not to love?

My first surprise was that although it looks fairly tame in the package, the color was definitely much bolder than I expected. (More flirty than nude?) It looked nearly red, with an almost orangey undertone after I applied fully. Before I resolved that it wouldn't work, however, (since the color didn't seem right for me skin tone), I thought I would try a few things before I ruled it out completely. Once I layered it with some other lip products, I really liked the colors. The following are a couple of the different ways I wore it:

  • Under a cappuccino colored lip gloss: The color shone through just enough to add some brightness without overwhelming.
  • Under Chapstick True Shine Lip Balm: The pearly shine of the lip balm helped mask some of the color and made it sparkle.
  • Under nude lipstick: Since lipstick is thicker, it took away a most of the brightness of the color, just made the nude a little more, um, flirty?
  • As a lipliner: With a nude lipstick and a dab of light gloss in the center of the lip. Once blended, this was a subtle, shimmery look with just a hint of color.

Application and Feel

As advertised, the application was very easy. The tip is almost like large felt tip marker. When first applying, it feels very wet, but dries without making lips feel parched. My lips were just barely soft, but event though the product didn't dry out my lips, I felt they needed a bit more moisture and protection. Even if I was satisfied with the color alone, I would have worn it with at last a matte lip balm for moisture and sun protection.

Staying Power

Since its claim is that it lasts for hours without fading or coming off, this is the big test for Cover Girl Outlast Lip Stain. I found that even with a gloss or balm over it, the lip stain lasted a good four to six hours. The center of my lips where the most gloss or balm was applied wore off first, and the outer edges where the lip stain was applied lasted much longer, and did not come off when eating or drinking. Worn without any additional emollient, the lip stain would most likely last longer.

Overall Rating

I would give Cover Girl Outlast Lip Stain four stars for an overall rating. I like the product and think it delivers well for the price, but I was not one hundred percent thrilled with the color. A couple of added pros are the fact that the tube is very light and easy to tote in you purse or bag, and it also has a light, berry-like scent. I will most likely purchase the product again, but in a different shade like Cinnamon Smile or Teasing Blush.

You can purchase this lip stain at mass retailer for around eight dollars. For more information, see Covergirl.com.
