Budget Concerns? Try Cover Girl Outlast Eyeliner
It’s no secret that since the "credit crunch" and global economic crisis hit; many have been looking for ways to trim their budgets while hanging on to quality. This is not always an easy feat, particularly when it comes to things like grocers. However, when it comes to discretionary items like makeup, the task becomes that much easier. It’s in that spirit that we turn to Cover Girl Outlast Eyeliner. Can it measure up in these lean times? Let’s find out!
The Application
The color we’ll be using today is navy. I chose this color because it usually works well with brown eyes like mine. However, if you don’t have brown eyes, don’t fret! This color also happens to look wonderful on a wide variety of eyes, including grey and blue.
To continue, I line the top of my lid, taking care not to make the line too thick. I then proceed to line the bottom lashes, including my lower inner rim (the part closest to the whites of the eyes), and I also line my inner tear ducts (the part of the eye closest to the nose).
The Results
As with most products, there are bound to be advantages and disadvantages. Here’s the lowdown:
The Advantages
- Sharp and Sturdy: By sharp, I mean that the pencil is sharp which makes for a much smoother application and it’s also sturdy enough that I’m not afraid that I’m going to break it.
- Glides Easily: Even though this pencil is both sharp and sturdy, it still manages to glide on pretty easily.
- Professional: I really love the fact that the navy color looks professional. That means I can wear it to work without looking like a thirteen year old. This is important because black liner often looks too harsh for the daytime hours and brown becomes rather boring day in and day out. This navy color suits the bill nicely.
As noted in the application, I did line the inner rims of the eyes, as well as the tear ducts. Please note that most doctors do not recommend doing this, and if you have particularly sensitive eyes, doing so may cause your eyes to run, effectively ruining your make look. However I’ve been doing this for years, and it suits me, so I’m pleased to report that Cover Girl’s formula did not make my eyes water. Excellent!
Disadvantages
The only real noticeable disadvantage was some slight flaking during the initial application, and while rubbing any flakes that fall under the eyes or on the cheeks will leave a stain, this situation can quickly and easily be remedied by placing a bit of translucent powder underneath the eyes. Once you are done applying, simply whisk the powder away and voilà! Instant beauty!
A world on Lips
Strong eyes that are rimmed all the way around call for a pretty, pale mouth and the good news is that you have a few different options to choose from. First, you can election to leave the mouth bare with just a quick swipe of lip balm or Vaseline. Seocnd, lip gloss in a pinkish shade would also work well. Third? Try a shiny, natural looking lipstick like Bobbi Brown’s Blue Raspberry. It softly colors the lips, but won’t compete with your eyes. I also love it because it imparts just the right amount of color to save you from looking "washed-out".
Budget Friendly
As mentioned previously, Cover Girl is a reasonable alternative to many of the more expensive eyeliners on the market, and at around $8.00 a pop, that’s something we can all appreciate!
The Verdict
So, would I recommend cover Girl Outlast Eyeliner? In a word, yes. The application was fairly straight forward, the pencil imparted a richly pigmented hue, and it was fairly long lasting. With advantages like these, it’s easy to see why women everywhere continue to purchase this particular brand of makeup.
