Cover Girl Eye Shadow Review
From LoveToKnow Makeup
Growing weary of my standard eyeliner and lipstick look, I’ve decided to do a Cover Girl eye shadow review to see if it packs the same makeup punch that eyeliners do, but without all the tugging and pulling.
Cover Girl Eye Shadow Review: The Basics
To enhance my naturally dark brown eyes, I’ve purchased the quad Cover Girl eye shadow, or Eye Enhancers kit. The kit contains four colors:
- Vanilla Cream
A pearlized vanilla shade designed to highlight the brow bone
- Almond Glaze
A purple/peach color applied directly under the vanilla cream
- Iced Blackberry
A deep, almost brown/purple color to be placed directly onto the crease of the eye
- Currant
A rich, deep purple designed for the lowest part of the lid
Covergirl states that these shades, if used in tandem, can take one from day to night, or if you prefer, you can use one shade for all-over color. Let’s try all the shades together and see what we get!
The Results
After my application, I sit back and survey my handiwork. Here are my findings:
| Pros and Cons | Description |
| Pro |
The application was exceedingly simple. I just followed the quad sequence and applied the shadow to its designated area.
These shades are definitely wearable. They don’t appear garish at all and the colors are remarkably true to their packaging.
Another positive aspect of this eye shadow is that you get to pick and choose the colors you’d like to wear. For example, if you are in a rush, you could just apply some of the vanilla cream color to your brow bone and some of the currant color to your lower lid, and voila, you are ready to go! |
| Cons |
All four shades together seem to be way too much drama for a Monday morning. Perhaps the coca quad would look better for everyday wear.
As funny as it may sound, even though I feel as if I’m wearing a ton of makeup, my eyes lack the dramatic look I usually get from my regular eyeliners. Instead of looking sexy, I just seem to look as if I’m playing with makeup. Not an attractive look for an adult!
You must put down a base of loose powder under your eyes if you are going to wear this look. The eye shadow definitely flicks and flakes off as you apply. Save yourself some heartache and put the loose powder down first. Then when you have finished applying the eye shadow, you can simply whish the powder away with a large powder brush. |
A Word on Lips
With dramatic eyes like these, be sure to choose a lipstick that won’t compete for attention with your eyes. Opt instead of a pale, nude or clear and glossy look to compliment your smoldering eyes.

The Verdict
Finally, will I be wearing the Covergirl Eye Enhancing shades? Maybe. After my Cover Girl eye shadow review, I could see myself wearing it if I had some place really fancy to go, like a black-tie event or formal dinner. Other than that, I will probably stick to my usual eyeliner look. Although, if I have an important lunch date, I may use the highlighter shade in the quad on my brown bone. It never hurts to keep ‘em guessing!
