Classic Red Cover Girl Lipstick
From LoveToKnow Makeup
Classic red Cover Girl lipstick seems like the perfect way to pull off a pretty, polished look.
Classic Red Cover Girl Lipstick and a Sophisticated Style
Usually, I sport very pale lips. I tend to like the nudes and the pinks because it allows me to focus may makeup look on my eyes, but I’ve been doing this for years. Well, at some point, maybe because every photograph has me sporting the same look, or maybe because I just got tired of lining my eyes, I decided I needed a change.
Classic red Cover Girl lipstick seems like a perfect vehicle for that change. I’ve always been one of those women petrified of showing up in red lips; after all, that’s very attention grabbing. Could I pull it off? Would people stare? Well, I’m a big fan of the Texan saying, "let’s do it to it", so that’s exactly what I did!
The Application
Red lipstick has a tendency to "bleed" and classic red Cover Girl lipstick is no exception. Bearing that in mind, I carefully slough and buff my lips before topping them with a little lip balm. My face is now a shiny, clean palette, ready to take color. I apply the lipstick directly from the tube (most makeup artists recommend this with a red lipstick because it imparts more color), staring at my lower lip and moving across the top.
The Advantages
- Color: Talk about eye-popping color! My shade was number 575, Really Red, and let me tell you, that’s no misnomer. To my delight, the color is shockingly, brilliantly red.
- Simplified: Not only does my mount hold the color well, but I’m very happy to see that I need very little more makeup on my face. This is great because instead of deciding which eyeliner I want to wear, my entire routine is now simplified.
- Sophisticated: I hate to toot my own horn, but I really do look incredibly sophisticated. Visions of art galleries and opera houses skitter across my brain as I stare into the bathroom mirror. All of that fades, however, when I go out to greet my husband (who’s here to take me to a small family gathering). Oh well, a girl can dream, can’t she?
The Disadvantages
There are almost no disadvantages to this lipstick save for the fact that after a while, it begins to feel a bit drying on the lips. Luckily, as I catch a glance of myself in a mirror, it doesn’t look dry. In fact, it looks as if the color is wearing rather well.
The Results
I love this look! Red really does make people stare at you, but hopefully, in a good way. I’m guessing that I do, in fact, look pretty good since my husband is fawning over me in a way that I haven’t seen since our dating days. Now I have new secret weapon; I’m delighted!
The Verdict
The verdict, when it comes to classic red Cover Girl lipstick, is really quite simple; buy it. Not only is this product pretty inexpensive (you can purchase for around $8.00), but it looks and wears, incredibly well. Just remember not to leave your entire face bare (it looks kind of ghostly with this color).
Instead, make sure the brows are neat, apply a little cover-up (only where you need it) and top your lashes with loads of mascara. You can also use a black eyeliner on your lids, or if that’s too heavy, reach for a deep brown one. That’s literally all you need to pull of this look. Now go slip into something gorgeous, although, in truth, everything seems to go great with this color.
