How to Create Celebrity Looks
Reader Question
Hi Miss Dana,
I have a question that I would like you to answer. I don't know if you remember or are fond of the late R&B singer Aaliyah. She was absolutely gorgeous and any one can see that her eyebrows played a major part on her beauty. Anyways, I have tried over and over again to achieve this type of brow that Aaliyah had. I’ve even tried going to a salon and I still didn’t get the results that I was looking for. As a black person with dark full lips, thick black hair and humongous eyes I would think that achieving her eyebrows would not be a problem since her eyebrows were thick but shaped beautifully. My question is, can you give me any advice on how to achieve Aaliyah-looking eyebrows?
Thanks and God Bless,
kyrese

Dear Kyrese,
It seems to me that if you have gone to a salon already--and I assume you brought a picture of Aaliya--and they could not duplicate the look you want, and you have not had success yourself, you simply may have to face the fact that the shape of your eyes, bone structure and overall eyebrow line are different than hers. You may want to simply work with your own natural brows and follow these helpful tips.
The space between your brows should be equal to, or a little wider than, your eyes. Take a long eye shadow brush or pencil and hold it parallel to the side of your nose. Where the brush meets your brow is where your brow should begin. To find the end of your brow, extend the brush diagonally from your nostril, following the outside edge of your eye toward the brow. Where the inside edge of the brush hits is where your brow should end. The best brows have a slight arch--or in your case, you can create a more dramatic arch like Aaliya's and go deeper into your natural brow. To find yours, hold the brush parallel to the outside edge of the colored part of your eye (the iris). Where the brush meets the brow is where the highest part of your brow should be.
