Cat Makeup Halloween

When it comes to cat makeup, Halloween's got your inspiration!

Cat Makeup: Halloween Favorite

Got a basic makeup collection? You can create most of a cat look without ever visiting a costume supply shop. It feels good when a Halloween favorite and a low budget come together.

The Tools

It won't take much to create the perfect cat makeup. Here are a few things you need:

  1. Black gel liner or a black liquid liner and black pencil liner
  2. White face paint
  3. Shadow (your choice of color)
  4. Lipstick (again, your choice of color depending on the look you're going for)
  5. Eye shadow base or concealer
  6. Mascara and/or false lashes
  7. Bronzer

How to Create the Perfect Cat Eye

The eyes are what make cat makeup; Halloween is the perfect time to practice. You can always tone it down later for daily wear. It's really just a hyped up version of the retro makeup that's popular today.

  • Prime your lids.

First, prime your eyelids with a base like Urban Decay Primer Potion or MAC Paint. If you don't have a base, you can use concealer.

  • Think about eye shadow.

The eye shadow is up to you. If you want a bright-eyed cat look, opt for shades that are close to your own skin tone, but shimmery. If you want to be a true sex kitten, use smoky grays, charcoals, and blacks. If you do go for the smoky look, don't forget to line your bottom lash line with a deep, sultry shade. You'll avoid the top-heavy eye makeup look that way.

  • Grab some liquid and gel liners.

Liquid and gel liners work best to make a flawless cat eye. Getting your liner symmetrical can be intimidating, but you can create guides for yourself that help you along. At the outer, upper corner of your eye, make a small dot with the liner. Do the same on the lower, inner corner.

  • Start Drawing

Line your upper lid from the inner corner to the outer, then draw a diagonal line from the edge of your lash line to the dot you made on the outer corner.

Draw another diagonal line from the lower dot to your waterline (the inner rim of your bottom lash line). Unless you're using a gel liner, you may want to switch to a black pencil liner for this part because liquid liner can sting if it gets into your eyes. Line the waterline all the way across from the inner corner to the outer.

The hard part's done. Now you're down to adding mascara and/or false lashes if you'd like. You should be looking very feline-esque by this point of the transformation process. Thickening mascara will work best with this look simply because you don't want your lashes to get lost against all that liner.

Nose, Face, and Cheeks

You can use your regular foundation for your face.

Now it's time to contour the heck out of those cheekbones to mimic the delicate yet strong features of a cat. Using a slanted brush if you have one (if you don’t, your regular blush brush will be fine), apply bronzer below your cheekbones and blend downward.

With the white face paint, the only thing you should've really had to buy on the costume makeup aisle, make circles on the apples of your cheeks.

That liquid liner is truly coming in handy. It's easy to draw with and it's long lasting. Not to mention, you didn't have to buy special Halloween makeup to do most of your cat makeup. You're going to use it again. If your liner has a fairly stiff brush, you can use it to outline the tip of your nose. Color the tip as well as the area around your nostrils black. Then extend a single line from below the center of your nose to the top of your lip.

Getting Those Whiskers Straight

No kitty-cat would be complete without her own obvious set of whiskers. But how do you get them straight? You can use the edge of a piece of paper or a business card, depending on the length you'd like for them to be. Use your liquid or gel liner from above to draw them on.

Lips

Anything from nude to flamboyant red goes. Take your pick. You can't go wrong. Blue-toned reds and wines will make your teeth look whiter. Opt for one of those if you plan to be flashing your mysterious grin at a sexy acquaintance all night.

The Finishing Touches

To make your cat makeup more believable, you can even add a few extras:

  • Specialty contact lenses to make your eyes yellow-green, with slit-like pupils
  • A headband with cat ears attached
  • Sexy black cat suit
  • Long, false nails to look like claws
  • A perma-smirk that makes people wonder exactly what you're up to.
