Bobbi Brown Gel Liner
From LoveToKnow Makeup
The Bobbi Brown gel liner shade I'll be using today is called Indigo Ink, and as you'll see, this is one makeup product that's aptly named!
Why Use a Gel Liner?
Gel liners are relatively new to the cosmetics market; they were only introduced a few years ago. However, since its introduction, its purported advantages have been widely known.
Chief among these advantages is the fact that gel liners tend to last much longer than traditional eyeliners that when applied correctly, are virtually budge proof. The Bobbi Brown gel liner collection boasts both of these advantages plus a wide array of colors to help you create the look you want.
About the Bobbi Brown Gel Liner
The Bobbi Brown gel liner comes in the following colors:
- Forrest Shimmer
- Caviar Ink
- Black Ink
- Black Mauve Shimmer
- Black Plum Ink
- Bronze Shimmer
- Chocolate Shimmer
- Cobalt Ink
- Espresso Ink
- Granite Ink
- Graphite Shimmer
- Hunter Ink
- Indigo Ink
- Ivy Shimmer Ink
- Mahogany Ink
- Sepia Ink
- Violet Ink
Tthe color I'll be using is Indigo ink. The gel itself comes in what can only be described as an ink pot, similar to one of those old-fashion ink wells that were ubiquitous before the automatic pen was created. With its screw top lid, this gel liner is small and sleek enough to fit into any size makeup bag.
The Application
It's worth noting that in order to apply this gel liner correctly, you need to use the right brush. In this case, that's Bobbi Brown's eye liner brush. Without it, applying this liner can be a very messy and tricky application indeed. I dip my eyeliner brush into the gel pot and tap off the exce4ss product and begin to apply the gel. Here are my findings:
- Work Quickly: Bobbi Brown's website recommends that you work quickly with this product, and I can tell you that's very good advice indeed as the gel dries fairly quickly.
- Rich Color: One of the things I like best about this gel is that it is true to color- the color you see in the ink pot is exactly the color that you get when you apply it.
- Buildable Coverage: Another feature that's really great about this gel is that the coverage is buildable. Sometimes, with traditional eyeliners, if you try to increase the coverage by going over the line you've drawn again, the eyeliner may flake and fall. Luckily, this is not the cause with this eye gel.
Disadvantages
While there a few disadvantages to this gel, the one big disadvantage that stands out from the Bobbi Brown gel liner collection is the price. At $21.20 a pop, this gel eye liner is not cheap, especially when you compare that price to the price of most traditional eyeliners. To be sure, some might find this almost $22.00 price to be too expensive, but if you want a true budge-proof look, the price may well be worth it.
How to Wear the Look
This gel liner is full of bold color, and as such, looks best when it's not in heavy competition with other strong colors. In other words, it may be best to keep your mouth "soft" with either a pale, nude lip or by just suing a lip stain. Similarly, it may also be best to keep the rest of your face relatively simple, i.e., go ahead and skimp the heavy foundation and blush.
Should You Purchase?
If you need eye make that is guaranteed to stay on all day long, then few other makeup products can come close to an eye gel. Small for its function and therefore able to fit into the tiniest of makeup bags, this product is a definite winner. Moreover, if you just simply want a no-fail option for special occasions like that of a wedding or prom, then this too might just be your look!
