About Bobbi Brown
A spritz of any of the renowned makeup artist's scents is all but guaranteed to recall a beautiful memory or transport you to another place. These dynamic fragrances are more than just perfumes – they're your own adventures and experiences, bottled for posterity.
You might wonder how this is possible. It's fairly simple. Bobbi Brown is renowned for her approach to realistic, down-to-earth beauty. Her focus is not limited to color cosmetics, instead, this entrepreneur, wife and mother believes that complete balance in life is the key to true beauty.
Brown's initiation into the grand world of cosmetics started when she was just a child. Like so many other women, she found pleasure in digging through her mother's collection and developed an instant passion for the colors, textures and packages that seemed to hold an entire world of opportunity within them. There was one certainty that came of this childhood curiosity: a determination to become a professional makeup artist.
During the 1980s, the immensely garish fashion and makeup trends took center stage. Brown was turned off by the look, and began to tinker with ideas for creating something that was natural and beautiful at the same time. The result was Brown Lip Color, the first of a collection of wearable, brown-based lipstick shades.
When women realized that beauty wasn't necessarily about changing a look so much as it was about enhancing and building upon what was already there, they were quick to embrace Brown's philosophy. A complete collection of makeup soon followed, eventually leading to the creation of skincare, baby products, tools, accessories and of course, Bobbi Brown fragrances.
The Bobbi Brown Fragrance Collection
Whether it's a trip to the shore that sends you down memory lane or a relaxing shower that eases your nerves, there's something to inspire everyone in Bobbi Brown's small but sweet collection of fragrances. Each evokes powerful images, stimulates the senses and utilizes uplifting, true notes to perfectly capture the meaning behind the name.
Beach
Lose yourself in a fragrance so summery and fresh, you might forget where you actually are for a moment! This true-to-its-name fragrance is an eye-opener: At first sniff, it's deceptively coy, but it quickly opens up to reveal a blend full of personality and vigor. Beach is comprised of the following notes:
- Jasmine
- Sea spray
- Mandarin
Indeed, each note expresses itself fully in this evocative, unique scent. The initial spritz may remind some of sunscreen, as it did me, though perhaps with some depth. That depth is jasmine, a rich, delicious, long-lasting floral that takes over completely, but not before the sea spray and mandarin intermingle a bit, adding a light, airy touch to the scent.
Note that if your idea of oceanic scents involves coconuts and pineapples, you won't be wowed by Beach. This scent truly evokes the wistful spirit of a childhood beach vacation. It recalls the salty air, the radiating sunlight, the cool breeze, the pounding waves and even the sounds of life on a busy boardwalk. It's just that kind of fragrance. If you're seeking a gentle, everyday scent to wear everywhere from the mall to the office, you'll strike gold with Beach.
This Bobbi Brown fragrance was introduced as a limited-edition product in 2002. Its popularity grew to such extents that it eventually became a part of the regular line and evolved to a collection of body products. They include:
- Body Oil
- Body Lotion
- Body Scrub
- Shower Gel
Bath
"Clean" fragrances have grown in popularity in recent years, thanks to brands like Clean Perfumes and Philosophy. Their respective scents have made it possible to capture that fresh-from-the-shower, just-toweled-off feeling. Now Bobbi Brown offers her own addition to the group – the aptly-named Bath. It is comprised of the following notes:
- Water Hyacinth
- Neroli
- Orange Flower
- White Lily
- Aromatic Sage
- Sandalwood
- Patchouli
It may not sound like any bath you've ever taken (when was the last time you lathered up in a patchouli-scented product?), but this concoction is a surprisingly accurate take on its intended essence. It's light, feminine and soapy, an inoffensive aroma that easily works in any environment.
The notes in Bath are not as pronounced as those in Beach; here, they all seem to meld into one, resulting in a rather linear fragrance that smells primarily of Ivory soap. The scent is not long-lasting at all. In fact, within 20 minutes it had all but faded away completely. If you love the scent, dab an emolliating substance, such as Vaseline, a shea butter cream or an unscented body oil onto your pulse points prior to applying the fragrance. It will help hold the scent just a bit longer.
